A community for the work of building a company

Building a technology company asks an entrepreneur to grow alongside the business. Scientific and engineering expertise must be joined by decisions about people, customers, finance and leadership. Many of those decisions become easier to think through with others who have faced similar challenges.

CM Venture Capital brings portfolio entrepreneurs together through quarterly CEO salons and training sessions. These gatherings give founders a setting to exchange experience, ask questions and learn from peers, experienced business leaders and external specialists.

Learning from one another

A conversation with another entrepreneur can offer a perspective that is difficult to find elsewhere. Founders understand the pressure of turning a technology into a business while building a team and making decisions with incomplete information.

Our salons create time for those conversations. Entrepreneurs can compare approaches, share lessons and develop relationships across the portfolio. The value continues beyond a single gathering: knowing another founder gives them someone to turn to as new questions arise.

Broadening the founder’s perspective

Training at business schools such as China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) brings a management perspective to the challenges of company building. Sessions on recruiting and leadership, alongside experience shared by successful entrepreneurs, help founders consider how their own organizations need to develop.

Hearing from established business leaders adds another dimension. Their experience gives entrepreneurs a chance to look beyond the immediate technical milestone and consider the longer journey of building and leading a company.

Bringing specialist knowledge into the room

As companies grow, founders face questions that extend beyond their original expertise. We invite external legal and financial experts to help entrepreneurs understand those questions and engage more effectively with professional advisers.

One CEO training program brought together Morrison Foerster legal experts and China International Capital Corporation (CICC) specialists to discuss overseas expansion and Hong Kong listing considerations. Its agenda combined expert presentations and questions with time for portfolio company discussion.

For entrepreneurs, the opportunity is to connect specialist knowledge with the choices ahead of them: entering a new market, understanding legal risks or preparing for a future financing milestone.

Stronger judgment through shared experience

The purpose of this community is practical. We want entrepreneurs to leave with a wider perspective, useful relationships and better questions to bring back to their teams.

CMVC helps convene the people and expertise. The entrepreneurs bring their experience, curiosity and willingness to learn from one another. Together, they create a community that supports the work of building enduring technology companies.
