“Watch out for terrorists on the train!” – CEO Training Session with Mason Luo

On 2 Dec 2023, CEOs, CTOs, managers, supervisors and engineers from CM Venture’s portfolio companies Beaver Bio, Dynamic Hydrogen, Prismlab, Enwise, Skysys and Guofu participated in a CEO training session with professional project management coach Mason Luo.

Mason, with over 12 years of experience in project management, training & consulting, and a thorough understanding of enterprise project management, is the co-founder of YueZhen Consulting. He’s also an AACTP International Registered Coach and Trainer (ICT – International Certified Trainer).

The group of 20 participants, divided into 4 groups, spent a fruitful day discovering tips and processes to improve proven methods to enhance project delivery efficiency, deal with customers, build team effectiveness and more. Global processes such as WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), Stacey Matrix, S.M.A.R.T. and more were taught. The training satisfaction rate was a record 4.3 out of 5, with over 80% of participants willing to participate again.

Attendees started with ice-breaking, learning about defining projects and their attributes, differences between projects and operations, understanding project status within an organization, project management constraints, and project manager competencies. The lesson was divided into 7 sections: Project Management Framework, Project Management Stages – Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Closing. Global processes such as WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), Stacey Matrix, S.M.A.R.T. and more were also taught.

The training was psychologically tuned to corporate and cultural sensitivities: as basic as turning up at client briefing sessions with a company-branded notebook, instead of a laptop to demonstrate professionalism. Or that every project should is a train going from one destination to another, and every project member/collaborating department is a passenger – and how one must watch out for “terrorists on the train”. And how one, as part of a corporate system, should identify the different types of personalities around you to make an effective team: even the most junior personnel may be connected to someone influential.
